DAY
ONE
28/9/05
Each year,
Kanlayaneesithammarat's Mattayom 3 EP students have a week long
'English Camp'. This year (2005) was no different when 48 students
and a handful of teachers headed south towards Malaysia and
Singapore..
The trip began
with everyone meeting up in the EP Building at around 2am on a
Wednesday morning. Our departure had been scheduled for 02:30
allowing us plenty of time to reach the Malaysian border in time for
it's opening at 06:00. We arrived on schedule and even had time to
grab some breakfast before we continued on down the main north -
south highway towards the E-po serviced station. As we traveled down
the road, our teachers ensured that we were kept busy. There were
plenty of games and songs and we all took part. Anyway, because of
all our games, the trip went quickly and we soon arrived at E-po and
ready for our lunches. We ate our lunches and had time to relax
before continuing on with our first days journey down to Kuala
Lumpur. We arrived in Kuala Lumpur in the early afternoon which gave
us time for a little sightseeing before we checked into our hotel
for the night. The first place we went to in Kuala Lumpur (or KL as
it also known) was the KL Watchtower, one of the highest buildings
in the city. Once at the top of the tower, the views of the city
were fantastic and we seemed to be higher than the world famous
Petronas 'Twin' Towers which we had a good view of.
KL WATCH TOWER

After the
watchtower we went to the Petronas Towers and were given some free
time to look around the towers and buy some souvenirs in the
shopping complex at the base.
PETRONAS TWIN
TOWERS and KUALA LUMPUR
Anyway, after
the time in the coach, time at the Watch Tower, Petronas Towers, the
world's highest flagpole and some of the other KL sights - we were
all very tired by the end of the day and we were so happy to check
into the Radius Hotel in KL for the night. Shower and sleep at last!
DAY TWO
29/9/05
Another busy
day ahead so we all woke early, showered and had breakfast in the
hotel's restaurant. Today we had a trip to the Fairview
International School, a school Kanlayanee first became 'friends'
with on the 2004 Three Nations Trip.
FAIRVIEW
INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
Fairview
International School is a Kuala Lumpur school that we first visited
during our trip last year. We were again very warmly welcomed by not
only the staff but also by all of their students. The idea of these
school visits is to give our students an insight into other schools
by meeting their staff and students. Our visit started with both
schools giving a brief introduction of themselves. After the
introductions, the Kanlayaneesithammarat students were given 'new
friends' from Fairview and then in groups, they took part in various
educational activities. While the students were doing these
activities, the teachers from both schools had an informal meeting
which comprised of comparing the teaching methodologies used. Both
groups gained useful insight about the education system in both
countries. Once the activities and the teachers' had finished their
meeting the Kanlayaneesithammarat students put on a display of 'Manora'
and a 'Shadow Puppet dance'.
This was the
second time that we had visited Fairview, and the feedback from the
participating teachers and our students has been nothing but highly
commending with extremely positive reports. We hope that both
schools can continue being friends and that one day Kanlayanee can
play host to staff and students from the Fairview International
School.
PETALING JAYA
NEWTOWN
After leaving
Fairview we went on the coach to an interesting new place just
outside KL. The place was called Putraya Jaya New town and it has
been designed to be one of the most modern built-up areas in the
world. High speed internet in every building, all cables hidden
underground and a ultra modern infrastructure too. It's also home to
one of the biggest mosques in the world, many multi-national
companies as well as the Malaysian Prime Ministers offices.
After leaving
Petaling Jaya we continued on our journey south eventually stopping
for the night at the Grand Continental Hotel in Johur Bahru. We
checked in, and then had free time to do what we liked. Most of us
had a little walk around then retired to our rooms for a shower and
to fill in our campbooks. Because we had had a very long day we were
all asleep fairly early.
DAY THREE
30/9/05
SINGAPORE
We were all up
early and had soon eaten breakfast ready for another day. Once all
aboard the coach we headed off across the causeway towards the
Malaysian/Singapore border. Once at the border we all had to show
our passports before re-boarding the coach to continue our trip into
Singapore. Our first stop was Chinatown where we were all able to
change some money and do a little shopping. We had our lunches in
Chinatown before heading off to the cable car and Sentosa, a 'fun'
island just off Singapore. The cable car was exciting as it was the
first time that most of us had been on one. We stayed here all
afternoon visiting many fun places. Underwater world, the wax museum
and many other sights had been seen before we all met up for the
finale of the day, the laser show and musical fountains. Once back
on the mainland we checked into the Queen Hotel for the night.
DAY FOUR
1/10/05
GENTING
HIGHLANDS
Another
morning and another breakfast. We checked out of the Queen Hotel,
packed all our belongings and boarded the bus for another day on our
camp. Once everything and everybody was on the coach we set off for
another day. First stop was the Merlion, the symbol of Singapore.
After taking a series of photos, we again boarded the coach for the
trip up to the Genting Highlands in Malaysia.
After passing
the border post again and being back in Malaysia we headed north. To
pass the time, we had a lot of activities, songs and watched a movie
before sleeping for a little while. Soon we were near Genting ... at
the cable car anyway. A quick trip up in the cable car and we would
be there. The top, eventually. The First World Hotel was where we
would be staying so we were soon all checked in and up in our rooms.
An evening looking around was followed by an early night. We had
time to explore tomorrow.
DAY FIVE
2/10/05
GENTING
HIGHLANDS
Today we had
no traveling. We were staying all day here in Genting Highlands
mainly because there was so much to see and do here. There were
shopping plazas, restaurants and best of all there was a big
amusement park where all of the students spent nearly the whole day.
We had a lovely dinner in the hotel and really enjoyed our time
here. We used a lot of our energy during the day so for some of us
it was an early night so that we'd be ready for the long trip in the
morning.
DAY
SIX
3/10/05
THE JOURNEY
HOME
We were all up
early for our breakfasts as we knew we had a long journey ahead of
us. Once we'd eaten we returned to our rooms and packed our bags.
Then we all met up and took the cable car down the mountain until we
came to the point where we would meet our coach. The coach was
waiting for us so we all boarded and once we'd all been accounted
for, we set off on the long drive back home. After many hours in the
coach singing songs, playing games and various other activities, we
slowly dozed off before being woken at the Thai - Malaysian border
where we showed our passports and were able to do a little shopping
in the duty-free stores. Four hours later our coach pulled up
outside the school gates and we were able to go home after a
wonderful week exploring Malaysia and Singapore.
We all had a
great trip, saw many interesting places, met other students and
above all made some new friends with whom we were able to speak
English. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
