PHUKET & KOH HAE 2007

2004 / 2007 / 2008 / 2009 / 2010

17th - 19th February 2007

DAY ONE: This camp started like all of our camps - EARLY!  It was 6am and all of the Mattayom One students studying in the EP gathered outside the EP building ready for their English Camp to Phuket and the island of Koh Hae. Once all the students had been registered we all boarded our double deck bus for the trip to Phuket. After a short delay we were on our way. Ajarns Gege and Thomas kept us all awake with lots of games and songs which we all joined in with. Time passed very quickly and we soon arrived at our first stop, the big park just outside of Phangnga Town. Here we had a chance to stretch our legs and have some lunch. This park is famous for its monkeys but unfortunately we didn't see any. After a walk around the park we boarded the bus to continue our journey towards Phuket and Koh Hae.

Relaxing in Phangnga Park

We crossed Sarasin Bridge, the bridge that links Phuket Island with the mainland and were at last on Phuket Island, the first time for most of us. Our first stop was Surin Beach where we played games, sang songs and interviewed some of the foreign holidaymakers relaxing on the beach. It was very hot but we were not allowed to go in the sea because we still had some other places to visit. We stayed for about 3 hours on Surin Beach and we had a really nice time there. While we were on Surin Beach we met an ex-Kanlayanee student who was now studying at The Prince of Songkhla University on Phuket Island. When we left, we went to Laem Phromthep or Sunset Point as it is also known. Here we had our dinners and took photos as we all watched the sun slowly setting over the Andaman Sea. Once the sun had set, we got back on our coach and had a short drive to our accommodation in the Saphan Hin area of Phuket Town. Soon we arrived and after a long day we had the chance to relax for a short time before our 'campfire'. Freshly showered we came downstairs and in our groups, we performed our plays for all the others to watch. While the groups were performing, we had a little emergency as the building we were staying in caught fire! Ajarns Geordie, Neung and Maeng along with a couple of others ran upstairs and soon had the fire under control and extinguished. It was only a small fire but it had the potential to be much worse. With the excitement over we carried on with our 'shows'. When we had all finished, it was quite late and we all went to our rooms to sleep.

Interviewing tourists on Surin Beach, Laem Phromthep and Maew, an ex-student from Kanlayanee who we met.

DAY TWO: Our alarm clocks went off at 6am and we woke up for the second day of our Phuket English Camp. We had our breakfasts and boarded the coach as it was taking us to Chalong from where we got the speedboats to Koh Hae. Koh Hae is only 15 minutes away but the journey on the speedboats was fast and exciting. It didn't take us long and we were soon on the beach on Koh Hae Island. We settled down on the beach and then we did some of our activities followed by games, snorkeling, eating and playing games. It was a very hot day but we all had fun and enjoyed ourselves very much indeed. At 3 in the afternoon we boarded the speedboats for the return journey back to Chalong. We soon arrived at Chalong and got back onto our coach for the short drive back to our accommodation where we showered and had our dinner. After dinner we once again got on the coach as we all went to see the cultural shows at Phuket Fantasea. We walked around Fantasea but didn't buy much as it was very expensive. We did see the shows though and they were all very good. We slept well that night because the day had been so tiring.

Our speedboats, fun on Koh Hae and our very own Ajarn Sompon.

DAY THREE: Our last day on Phuket. Yes, it was another early morning. We all woke up at around 6 in the morning, showered and then went for our breakfasts. Today we were making the journey home so with bags packed we boarded the coach and started the drive back home. Our first stop was the Korn Thong OTOP shop on the main road out of Phuket. Here we looked around and a few of us bought some items but everything there was very very expensive. Anyway, back on the coach and we were heading for the 'Heaven and Hell Temple' in Phangnga town. An hour or so later and we were there ready to explore this unique temple. To visit Heaven, you enter a big cave and walk about 100 metres into the mountain. Hell is outside and full of strange sculptures. It was interesting and four monkeys joined our group when we had our lunch afterwards. We soon left this temple and headed off towards Sra Morrokot or the Emerald Lake which is in Krabi Province. Here we walked around the nature trail and walked to the beautiful lake. Some people were swimming but unfortunately we didn't have time and before we knew it we were back on the coach heading for home. At about 5:30 in the early evening our coach pulled up outside Kanlayanee and we all went home to tell our parents about our experiences in Phuket.
