KHANOM BEACH 2007

2004 / 2006 / 2007 / 2008 / M2 2008

28th & 29th April 2007

It was time again for our annual Mattayom One English Camp to Khanom Beach, a beautiful beach just an hour north of Kanlayanee. These camps are held every year at the beginning of each school year. Their purpose is to allow our new Mattayom One students make new friends, meet the teachers and more importantly, make them feel comfortable studying at Kanlayanee.

The day began early, 06:30 on Saturday 28th April. We all registered and when we had all been accounted for boarded our double deck coach for the trip up to Khanom Beach. On the coach we sang some songs and played some fun games. Our teachers, Mayuree, Gege, Holger, Peter and Michael ensured that we didn't sleep so that when we arrived at Khanom we were all wide awake! The journey didn't take that long and before we knew it we were parking up with the Gulf of Thailand directly in front of us. We left all of our bags on the coach and were met by Thomas and Geordie who had driven up earlier. We had breakfast and then it was soon time for our rotation games which were to be held on or very near to the golden sands of Khanom beach. In our groups, we each spent 2o minutes with each teacher playing learning games that included a lot of fun and excitement too. We really enjoyed them but were very tired when we finished. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't that nice in the morning with lots of rain. Soon it was time for our lunches so we all sat in the beachside restaurant of our hotel and ate and drank soft drinks.

As we had all come from different schools prior to joining Kanlayanee, a lot of the other students were strangers to us and these games were great because they gave us the opportunity to meet all the teachers and to make new friends. After our lunch we had a little time to relax and then it was time for more fun on the beach. We played some more games and then most of us went swimming in the hotel's swimming pool as the sea was a little too rough. As the afternoon came to an end, we were given free time to shower and then prepare for the highlight of the weekend, the campfire with shows and food.

Because it was still raining, we had to have our 'camp fire' indoors so we all went to the hotel's meeting room. We were in our groups and one by one we 'performed' for everyone else. Our shows were good fun and some were very funny too. Even our Mattayom 2 & 3 'helpers' put on a show and we covered them all in powder! A former student of Kanlayanee, Ting Ting and her family also came down to Khanom. Their reason for coming down was that they run the local Channel 11 TV station and they were filming our English Camp and sometime in the future this particular English Camp is going to be broadcast nationwide.

The following morning we went back to the beach for some more fun and as the sea was not so rough we were allowed to go swimming too. It was good fun and we really enjoyed it. Soon it was lunchtime so we all ate, showered and packed our bags. Our time in Khanom was coming to an end :-(

When we had packed we took our bags downstairs and went back into the hotel's meeting room and had our award ceremony. All of the students were presented with certificates for the camp. Then, it was time to board the bus again for the journey back to Kanlayanee and Nakhonsithammarat where our own families were waiting for us and we were eager to tell them all about our Khanom English Camp.
