America…, Land of freedom and opportunity is what I’d heard before I
came. And now I know that’s true because I went there and got lots
of experience.
Anyway, my name’s Ekawich Praipisut.
Everyone calls me Ekawich or Nuang. I was an exchange student from
Thailand, stayed with Meyer family. There are 3 in my host family.
My host Dad, Dave, is a professor at University of Cincinnati. My
host mom, Kani, is a hard working woman. Both of them are very funny
guys. They helped me and explained about English or anything. I’ve
learned a lot since I stayed with them. My host brother, Ross, is a
cool guy and we get a long very well even though we have very
different age and personalities. I wish I had an older brother like
him because the differences make things cooler. I went to St. Xavier
High school then I transferred to Finneytown High School. American
High Schools are so much fun and much different than their Thai
equivalents. It made me braver and confident to express my opinion.
My friends at school also made
me see a real American teenager’s life and all of them were new,
exciting, interesting even bizarre experience for me. We hang out
together a lot. It made me really enjoyed the rest of my time in
America. “ Being an Exchange student is easy, but being an exchange
student and stay through one year in a strange places and different
language and culture is so difficult and hard to describe.” First
time when I got to America, I felt completely numb. Everything was
absolutely different and so strange for me like houses, people
around, food and etc. Before I left, I got used to it very well
especially American food…hahahaha I just love it! American food is
so good, especially their desserts…those are the reasons why I’ve
gained lots of weight. Now I look like a typical big American! …hehehaha….
First of all, I would like to thank
my host family, Dave, Kani, Ross, Emmi and her family. They made my
experience awesomely perfect. But I must give an extra special
thanks to my family, especially my dad, my mom, and my sister who
were there all the time for me with their encouragement, dedication
and genuine love.
Thanks too, to all my teachers,
especially Ajarn Mayuree, and her faculty who helped and supported
me. Thank you so much for being a great advisor, Teacher Georgia.
She was my American History teacher who taught me how to write
reports and lots of things about America. Thanks to all my Thai
friends for being my friend and being with me even in bad times, for
supporting me and giving good advice. Thanks also to all my American
friends, you guys made my experience absolutely incredible, unique
and unforgettable. Thanks all for rocking my world! |
